The following are a few informational items which will help you gain a better understanding of our class routines. I will provide more details regarding the grade one curriculum expectations and program delivery during our Information night on Wednesday, September 16th.

I hope to see you all there.

Physical Education:

The children will have Physical Education in the gym twice per week (Wednesday/Friday). At times, we will also have outdoor Physical Education classes, weather permitting. We recommend that your child have a clean pair of running shoes with non-marking soles for gym.

Homework:

A Grade One student should spend approximately 10-15 minutes on homework activities. Here is an example of a nightly routine that will further support your child's learning:

1. Review word wall words (5 minutes)
2. Read from home reading program  (5 minutes)

3. Visit Online Math site (5 minutes)

The word wall word lists will be sent home closer to the end of the month.

Agendas and Home-School Communication

The school agenda book will be used as an organizational and communication tool.  The agenda should be returned every morning. Please sign or initial your child's agenda every day. Also check the clear pouch at the front for notes.  Please try to make it your child's responsibility to show you his/her agenda after school each day.

I am very excited to be teaching your child and look forward to a great year working together!
