We have had another great week in Grade one. The boys and girls have been extra energized with the crisp, clear fall weather that has arrived on cue. We had some fun making "adorable owls" to support the beautiful Changes of Fall that we see all around us each day. There is nothing better than Grade One Art!!!
The students continue to develop their reading skills and the boys and girls are delighting in these budding skills. I have been using their names and familiar words in the class environment and within the morning message to help develop a store of familiar sight words. This week the children will begin their home reading program. I can not stress enough how important it is to read with/to your child each night. Also When you are driving around or looking through flyers, encourage your child to find words that they can “read”!
Along with the reading program, five word wall words will be glued into your child's agenda at the beginning of each week. These words are high frequency words that your child will see repeatedly while developing their reading skills. The goal is for your son/daughter to recognize and read each word........then ultimately spelling the word correctly to apply into their writing. Please review the list words on a regular basis with your child.
We have been using rhyming words frequently in our language lessons. A poem will be glued into your child's agenda on thursday of each week. Have fun with the poems as the children appear to enjoy the patterns, rhymes, and humorous messages that each poem presents.
In math we will soon finish up with sorting and continue to look at number relationships. The children are learning to show numbers in a variety of ways. We work on problem solving daily.
