We spent a good part of the week learning about terry Fox. We started the week with a read-aloud about his marathon of hope. We discussed his stamina and then made connections to how it is important to build stamina during our everyday learning activities. We are especially trying to build stamina during our self selected reading time.
In writing the children used repetitive frames (my mommy can) to create stories about their mommies. The children came up with some great ideas and while we focused on proper letter formation, spacing, and beginning and ending punctuation. next week we will write about the dad's. I will be sure to send these masterpieces home for parents to enjoy. We also explored journal writing for the first time. We will be writing about Terry Fox on Monday.
We had our first visit to the library yesterday with Lots of excitement picking books. the books were tucked into your child's backpack. last night. Happy reading!
You can help at home by reading to and with your child each night. get your son/daughter excited about reading......visit the public library on a regular basis.
We continue to explore number relationships on a daily basis. presently the children are learning to, identify and read numbers past thirty, show numbers to 15 in a variety of ways (base ten, tally, ten frame, pictures and words) and solve daily story problems through role playing and manipulative use.
You can help at home by reinforcing mental math activities (reading and locating numbers in the world around your child), counting, and sorting a variety of items you have in your home (books, buttons, shoes, socks).
please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes suitable for participation in the gym.
