We have wrapped up another great week of learning in Grade One!! The boys and girls are super excited to be leading the Easter Mass with the Grade Five students with their singing and readings. we will practice in the gym next week......and the microphone is sure to be a big hit!! We hope you will be able to join us. Please see below for further details.
In reading, we have used our read aloud "Charlotte's web" as a springboard to a variety of comprehension activities. The students have made comparisons between the main characters (templeton/Wilbur) and connections to a variety of events in the story. Next week we will act out different parts and share in a large group setting each student's favorite part of the story.
Thank you for reading with your child each night at home and reviewing word wall words for spelling accuracy. The boys and girls are highly motivated by the weekly spelling "check up" and more importantly learning to apply the correct spelling into their writing tasks.
Looking ahead we will soon begin a measurement unit. The children will use a variety of non-standard tools to measure different items both in and out of the class, This unit is very hands on and usually of high interest to the children.
In Science, the boys and girls are just wrapping up their Energy unit. We will spend some time next week linking Earth Day concepts (reduce, reuse, recycle) to our "explore and discovery" time.
Looking ahead the boys and girls will be examining the purpose and function of different materials in the world and identify/distinguish between matter (solid, liquid, gas)
The Dance unit we had last week was an absolute hit with all of the boys and girls. The instructor was spot on and kept the kids actively engaged and eager to show their own personal'dance floor moves". We had a blast and I hope the kids shared their enthusiasm with you at home.
1. Our Education Week Open House will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd from 8:00am until 9:10am. This a a time for your child to take you through our classroom and share some of their activities that have been taking place during the last few weeks. Following the Open House, the Grade One and Grade five classes will be leading the school wide Easter Mass at 9:30am. We hope you can make it!
2. Thank you for the baby pictures. Each picture will be returned in the next couple of weeks. We will be playing a "guess Who" game next week.......which should be lots of fun.
3. Thank you also for the generous donations to our "Summer Fun" themed spring basket. The baskets will be on display during Education week and the children will have a chance to purchase tickets if so desired at this time.
Thank you for your continued support.
